EVE Online map command palette

Press Ctrl+K on EO-Map, or Cmd+K on a Mac, and a command line opens over the map of New Eden in EVE Online. Type what you want and press Enter. route Jita Amarr plots the stargate route, layer combat on paints where the fighting has been, and open sov opens the Sovereignty panel. Every command does exactly what clicking the matching control does, so there is no separate mode to learn. It is free, it runs in your browser, and there is nothing to install.

Built for a keyboard. The command palette needs a physical keyboard, so it is for desktop browsers. Everything it does is also a button, a menu or a panel on the map.

What you can do from the keyboard

Plot a route

route Jita Amarr plots a stargate route through Point to Point, with the route preference and avoid list you set there. Give one system and it routes from the one you have selected. --copy copies the route note for pasting in game, and clearroute clears it.

Paint the map

color industry picks a Color By mode. layer combat sov on turns several Layers on at once and layer none turns them all off. view names on, view 2d and cinematic on cover the View settings, the layout and Cinematic Mode.

Open any panel

open and the name a panel shows opens it, as its button in the left rail or the Tools Library does: open intel, open kill replay, open my geography. Live Events and the Routing tabs open the same way.

Look up a system

system 1DQ1-A answers in place with security status, region, constellation, star and planets. gates lists stargate neighbours with their security and distance, and nearby lists the closest systems in light years.

The commands

Type help in the palette for the full list and help followed by a command for its options. These are the ones you will use most.

select <system> selects a system and flies the camera to it.
route [from] <to> plots a stargate route, and copy, clearroute and reset copy the route note, clear the route and reset the map.
color <mode> picks security, truesec, region, planet type, star type, asteroid belts, industry cost, sov window, one of the three wormhole modes, or off. color details opens the Star Coloring panel.
layer <name> [on|off] covers all ten Layers: activity, combat, wormholes, sov, fw, highlight, skyhooks, storms, traffic and gatecamps. A name on its own toggles it.
view names|regions|distance|compare [on|off] and view 2d or view 3d change the View settings and the layout.
open <name> opens any panel by the name it shows. Type open and a space to list every name.
bubble [system] shows the single-jump range sphere from the Jump Range tab.
system, gates, nearby and search answer in the palette.

How it works

Suggestions appear as you type: commands, their options, and system names with the security status and region beside each one. Names match loosely, so 1dq1a finds 1DQ1-A and a missing hyphen never matters. Use the arrow keys to pick a suggestion and Tab or Enter to take it. On an empty line the up arrow brings back earlier commands. Esc clears what you have typed first and closes the palette when the line is empty, and Ctrl+K closes it from anywhere.

Commands follow the same rules as the controls they drive. Color By and Layers pause in Solar System View, while Compare Universe Scale runs and in Cinematic Mode, and the palette says so and tells you how to leave, rather than changing something the map cannot draw. The 2D layout is New Eden only, so view 2d waits until you leave the WH view. On their own, color, layer and view list what is on, which is a quick way to check the state of the map without opening anything.

What stays in your browser

The palette runs in the page, against the map data your browser has already loaded. Typing a command sends nothing anywhere, and routes are worked out on your own machine the same way the Routing panel works them out. A command that turns a layer on loads that layer's data exactly as ticking it would. The last hundred commands you ran are kept in this browser's local storage so the up arrow can bring them back, and clearing the site's data removes them. How to open it

Open the map in a desktop browser.
Press Ctrl+K, or Cmd+K on a Mac.
Type help to see every command, or start typing and pick from the suggestions.

How do I open the command palette?

Can I turn map layers on and off from the keyboard?

Yes. Type layer and a name, such as layer combat on, or several names at once, such as layer combat sov storms on. A name on its own toggles it, and layer none turns every layer off. color picks the Color By mode and view changes names, distance and the 2D layout.

Can it open any panel?

Any panel in the left rail or the Tools Library, by the name it shows: open intel, open kill replay, open market history or open jump planner. The start of a name is enough when only one panel matches, and open and a space lists every name. Live Events, Route Systems and Cinematic Mode open the same way.

No. It is a keyboard feature for desktop browsers. Everything it does is also a button, a menu or a panel on the map, so a phone visitor can reach the same things by touch.

Does the palette send what I type anywhere?

No. It runs in the page against map data your browser already has. The commands you ran are remembered in this browser only, so the up arrow can bring them back.
