Watch view: the EVE Online map laid out for a big monitor

Watch view is a second layout of EO-Map's interactive map of EVE Online, made for a 1440p, ultrawide or 4K monitor. The map sits in a frame, the page of the system you select sits under it, and the New Eden feed runs down the right with live kills, the week's battles, news, videos, the blog and the weekly report. It is the same map with the same data, laid out to be left open: every tool, layer and window still works. It is free, it runs in your browser, and there is nothing to install.

Desktop only. The Watch view and Full screen buttons appear on a desktop browser window of at least 1280 × 720 CSS pixels. Phones, the phone layout and maps embedded in other sites keep Map view.

What is on the screen

The map, framed

The same 3D map of New Eden, with Color By, Layers and every tool. Tools still open as floating windows, kept inside the frame. The top bar keeps Map view's controls where your hand expects them: 3D, 2D and WH by the logo, and the search in the middle with Reset beside it.

The system page

Six cards about the system you select, chosen by how busy it is: kills and fights for a contested system, the neighbourhood and the nearest activity for a quiet one. Select a system on the map or from the search, or click a row in the live card, and the page follows.

The New Eden feed

The live card first, the week's biggest battle second and three tools you have not tried yet third, then the rest newest first: Biggest fights today, news and videos, blog posts, the State of New Eden weekly report and What's new. Chips along the top filter it.

The live card

Reported kills and sovereignty changes as they land, six rows or fifteen after Expand. It holds the ticker's controls, because the tickers are not shown in Watch view: the Live and News switches, Stats, the filter menu and the Live Events window. Click a row to select its system.

How the system page picks its cards

A system counts as busy with 5 or more killmails in 30 days, one of the week's five biggest battles there, an active sovereignty campaign or an incursion. A busy system gets Kills, Fights, Control, Stations and structures, Gates and Traffic. A quiet one gets About this system, From you, Nearest activity, Neighbours, Traffic and Control. From you always shows the nearest trade hub; how far the system is from you needs EVE SSO and My Location. A card with nothing to show says what is not known and why, for example that player structures are not public. System names wear their security colour and ISK amounts the live ticker's value colours, so the page reads the same way the ticker does.

Where the news and videos come from

The feed's news and video cards and the news ticker along the bottom of the map in Map view come from one curated edition, put together by EO-Map's own server from public sources:

The ticker's news lines are normally picked and written by Claude, an AI, from the linked sources, and the summaries on the feed's news and video cards are written by Claude too. Live streams are the exception: they show the streamer's own name and stream title. Claude's lines and summaries are translated into EO-Map's six other languages where the translation passes its checks, with English in their place where it does not, and items link to their originals. From X, EO-Map shows its own summary and a link, never the post's text, and it names the poster only for the official account or an account X verifies as a business or government. Pictures from Reddit and X are screened by an AI before they are shown. Your browser downloads the edition as one file and never calls these services' APIs; a card's picture loads from its source's own image host.

How fresh it is

The system page and the feed show EO-Map's own snapshots, each updated on its own schedule: among them the Combat snapshot, the Killboard file rebuilt every 10 minutes, the sovereignty, incursion, activity, Skyhook and storm snapshots, the curated news, the blog and the weekly report. The feed re-checks its sources every 2 minutes while it is on screen, asks nothing while the tab is hidden, and slots new cards in without moving the one you are reading. The Kills chart is the one exception on the page: it asks EO-Map's killboard service for the system's last seven days. The live card is the only live stream. Biggest fights today needs a Combat snapshot under 6 hours old and marks a system Live now when a kill landed there in the last 15 minutes.

Who gets it, and how to switch

The buttons stay until the window is narrower than 1200 or shorter than 680 CSS pixels. A first visit on a window of at least 2048 × 1080 when the map loads, such as a maximised browser on a 1440p monitor at 100% scaling, starts in Watch view; after that the choice you make is remembered in that browser. A link with ?view=watch or ?view=map picks the layout for one visit and leaves your remembered choice alone, and it combines with ?system=. Solar System View, Kill Replay, Fleet Replay, a Force Projection Compare show, a Director run, Cinematic Mode, Creator Mode's Clean plate and Hide UI use the whole window while they run, and Watch view comes back when they end.

How to open it

  1. Open EO-Map in a desktop browser window of at least 1280 × 720 CSS pixels.
  2. Press the Watch view button at the bottom right of the map, or press T. In Watch view the same button reads Map view.
  3. Select a system on the map, or search for one, to fill the page under the map. Press F or the Full screen button for full screen.

Part of EO-Map

Watch view is a way of laying out EO-Map's interactive 3D map of New Eden, not a separate product. Routes, sovereignty, Combat, the Killboard, Intel and every other tool open in it exactly as they do in Map view, so a big monitor can sit on New Eden all evening and still be the map you plan with.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an EVE Online map layout for a big monitor?

Yes. Watch view lays EO-Map out for a 1440p, ultrawide or 4K screen: the map in a frame, a page about the selected system under it and the New Eden feed down the right. It is the same map, data and tools as Map view, and T switches between the two.

Why don't I see the Watch view button?

The button needs a desktop browser window of at least 1280 by 720 CSS pixels, measured after display scaling, so a small window or a high Windows scaling setting can hide it. Phones, the phone layout and maps embedded in other sites never get Watch view.

Where do the news and videos in the feed come from?

From public sources read by EO-Map's own server: EVE Online's official news and YouTube channel, approved EVE Online creators on YouTube, the most-watched live streams on Twitch, r/Eve, posts on X, the EO-Map blog and the State of New Eden weekly report. Claude, an AI, normally writes the news lines and the summaries on news and video cards, a live stream shows the streamer's own title, and items link to their originals.

Is Watch view live?

The live card at the top of the feed is live: reported kills and sovereignty changes arrive as they happen. The rest of the page and the feed are EO-Map's snapshots, each on its own schedule, and the feed re-checks them every 2 minutes while it is on screen.

Can I link straight to a system in Watch view?

Yes. Add a system id to a Watch view link, for example eo-map.com/?view=watch&system=30000142 opens Jita's page. The link picks the layout for that visit only and leaves the visitor's remembered choice alone.
